Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides (19 May 2011)

Captain Jack Sparrow is back in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Carribean franchise, titled On Stranger Tides. This is a huge relief for fans, including me, as we were dying to know what has the infamous pirate been up to since At World's End.

Jack is on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth, and he's not the only one. With him is the pirate-that-all-pirates-fear, Blackbeard, his daughter, and Barbossa.

Now that the story between William and Elizabeth is solved, this movie is whole new beginning. Introduction to Blackbeard is somewhat terrifying, kinda like a badass boss in your office. The mermaids are mystifyingly beautiful... and deadly, which is a great addition in the film. And I love what they did with Barbossa's funny and ridiculous makeover.

Downside is, the movie feels draggy. It was great in the beginning, but watching incomplete character developments here and there makes you wonder, who's the main character now? And the Spanish travelled all the way to the Fountain of Youth just to destroy it? There should be a battle between 3 sides. There's that love story enveloping between missionary Philip and mermaid Syrena, which is great for the film, but feels very rushed. And the zombies don't appear frightening as we imagined they would be.

My ratings: 3/5
