X-Men: First Class (3 June 2011)

X-Men: First Class re-tells the origin of X-Men. Set in the 1960s, Professor Charles Xavier(James McAvoy) a.k.a. Professor X, meets Erik Lensher(Michael Fassbender) a.k.a. Magneto. Together, they form a group of mutants to battle a powerful and sinister mutant dictator Sebastian Shaw(Kevin Bacon) leading his band of rogue mutants, whom has the intention of starting WW3. Along the way, the two best friends suddenly realize there's more at stake than just the world's safety: their friendship.

It was definitely a refreshing start. I never liked the previous ones, they just have too much Wolverine among other bad aspects. First Class has some interesting facts to the story. Like how Magneto came to be from a tortured, angry childhood; how Prof. X was a charming ladies' man (who knew?) and having Raven a.k.a. Mystique(Jennifer Lawrence) as a sister (?!!). The plot was quite good, and having the development of the characters at a steady pace really brings them out equally. However, the characters Havok(Lucas Till), Mystique, Banshee(Caleb Landry Jones), Angel(Zoe Kravitz), and Darwin(Edi Gathegi) should have developed more.

Acting wise, James McAvoy played a young Prof. X quite well. Michael Fassbender was also great as Magneto. Having Kevin Bacon as a villian is almost expected as he has 'the face'. I am however, disappointed with Jennifer Lawrence. She doesn't 'feel' like Mystique. Special effects were also great. It had successfully capture Prof. X's Cerebro and Magneto's submarine scenes. Those are the majestic moments in the film.

In conclusion, X-Men: First Class is one of the top recent movies you must watch. Take that Bryan Singer! THIS is how you should've done yours!

Movie ratings: 4.5/5
